Supporting project mobilisation

McCann collaborated with Balfour Beatty to mobilise the site offices and compounds, and through the implementation of our resource and planning procedures, we managed to fully mobilise and access the site by the specified entry date. During this mobilisation period, we carried out the following works:

  • Site clearance works including removal of tree stumps, raising/lowering of utilities chambers and removal/disposal of existing infrastructure.
  • Installation of services, trenches, and ductwork, including water pipes, cabling, and pump bagging.
  • Excavations, installations, and connections to site offices and compounds, including septic tanks.
  • Groundworks, installation of binder course, and surfacing to site office compounds and haulage roads.
  • Temporary ditch crossing installations over an existing V-type drainage ditch.
  • Erection of walkways, barriers, and fencing.

Giving back to the local community

Through this project, we collaborated with Balfour Beatty to give back to the local community impacted by our works, with our team volunteering their time and labour to support Hucknall Scout group. The works included:

  • A new access into the front of the building, suitable for wheelchair access.
  • Providing wheelchair-suitable egress from the building’s fire exit.
  • A new paved footpath that leads around the outside of the building.
  • A new communal outdoor area for BBQs, social events, etc.
  • Topsoil and tidy up of existing verge areas.

“J McCann have successfully delivered all the bulk earthworks, drainage, kerbing, ducting, streetlighting and signage for the £5.8m highways scheme working safely whilst adjusting to the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions. We have forged a good relationship with their experienced site team who have worked well in partnership with ourselves and other subcontractors throughout” Ian Jackson, MCIOB Site Agent, Balfour Beatty
