Sections 278 and 38 agreements are part of the Highways Act 1980. The Section 278 works ensure that new developments are properly connected to the existing road networks and that those networks are improved through development works. Section 38 works cover responsibilities of the newly constructed road, covering adopting and maintaining the roads.

Working for Taylor Wimpey as Principal Contractor, McCann was chosen to deliver crucial works on the A5 Longshoot infrastructure in Nuneaton, Warwickshire. The project scope involved complete Section 278 works widening and installing a signalised 4-way Junction on the A5.
McCann was chosen as the principal contractor to refurbish Rissington Car Park in Bourton-on-the-Water, Gloucestershire, UK, works included all S278 improvements, the replacement and overlay of paving, rearrangement and upgrade to the car park, including drainage improvements, provision of lighting and EV charging, and the replacement of street furniture and road markings.
As principal contractor, McCann’s constructed new highway and adoptable roads under Section 278/38 works, including footpaths, utility ducting, street lighting, signage, surface water drainage, flow chambers, connections to an existing watercourse, and landscaping preparation works.
