Over the past 10 years, McCann has established and expanded its own in-house lighting design team. As well as conventional lighting design, we provide compliance checks for exterior lighting, section 278/38 and 3rd party design reviews aligned with current lighting and electrical standards.
Our lighting design team undertake design across the highway network for numerous public and private sector clients. Works include design of road lighting for motorways, residential areas, home zones, town centre beautification, amenity lighting, area lighting, sports floodlighting, architectural lighting, carpark lighting, tunnel and subway lighting.
As a member of the Highway Electrical Association (HEA), all McCann designers are registered as ‘Approved Persons’ and are G39 certified. As an Institute of Lighting Professionals (ILP) Corporate member, all our design engineers either have or are
in the process of obtaining their Exterior Lighting Diploma.
We utilise the most up-to-date street lighting design software to establish the most efficient solutions when developing our designs. Our team are competent in Lighting Reality Road, Lighting Reality Area, DIALux and RELUX for lighting design and creating drawings in AutoCAD. Our specialists can undertake digital realisations of architectural lighting design by modelling projects in Trimble Sketch-up and RELUX, creating 3D visualisations of what the scheme would look like prior to construction.
Our teams design and install new and replacement lighting schemes and infrastructure, including private cable networks and electrical connection/disconnection systems, in accordance with the Institute of Lighting Professionals technical reports and guidance documents TR30, TR23, TR12, PLG23 and PLG08. We can assist in the development of a client’s passive safety policy based on the requirements of EN 12767:2019 and undertake risk assessments.
McCann’s design team regularly produce lighting impact assessments, undertaking compliance checks for existing and proposed exterior lighting installations and undertaking 3rd party design reviews for proposed installations referencing current lighting and electrical design standards.
