On the right track!

Volunteers in Mountsorrel have spent the last two years recreating the rail spur that linked the village to the nearby Great Central Railway from the 1890’s to the 1950’s.  The Mountsorrel Railway Project team has cleared about 1000 yards of the old derelict track and laid new ballast as a base for replacing the rails.  With some 80 local volunteers of all ages involved and Lafarge supplying the aggregate we were delighted to supply the heavy equipment and operators required to complete the works.

Project Leader Steve Cramp said ‘Lafarge Aggregates which owns Mountsorrel quarry has kindly donated the ballast to restore the railway and local contractor J McCann Ltd kindly provided it equipment and operators to help lay the ballast at no cost to the project.  We can’t thank them enough’.
