Canaan Trust
As a part of our volunteer activities, one of our staff members provides support for a locally based outreach project. The Canaan Trust, an independent Christian Charity, provides safe, secure and healthy supported accommodation for homeless males aged 16-54.
Based in Long Eaton, Nottingham, the Trust serves the needs of homeless men from Long Eaton, Ilkeston, Sandiacre, Stapleford, Sawley, Cotmanhay, Beeston, Chilwell, and Toton.
We also recently undertook repairs of their collapsed drain and constructed a new sewer access manhole while reconstructing a low brick wall at the front of Jordan House. We supplied and installed all work and materials free of charge, which enabled the Trust to save several thousand pounds of fund money.
Kidsafe
Kidsafe’s preventative approach takes children’s mental health and safeguarding to the next level. Kidsafe programmes train school staff to teach children directly, in an age appropriate way, to speak out about issues that could lead to ACEs, trauma or have a detrimental impact on their mental health and emotional wellbeing.
We are a silver member of the Kidsafe organisation and one of our most recent projects was providing sponsorship for a local primary school to access the ‘Get Home Safely School Pack’.
Sponsoring the Knife Angel
From March 2021 we will be the proud sponsors of the ‘’The Knife Angel’; a National Monument Against Violence & Aggression, which will touring around the country. The sculpture has been commissioned to show the depth and breadth of bad knife crime and violence is within the UK and how something needs to change before it is too late. J McCann & Co will also be lighting the Knife Angel for its duration in Grimsby.
The sculpture, made from over 100,000 seized blades, was specifically created to highlight the negative effects of violent behaviour whilst solidifying our critical need for social change.
Not only does the Angel act as a catalyst for turning the tide on violent and aggressive behaviour, but it is also acts as a beautiful memorial designed to celebrate those lives who have been lost through these violent and thoughtless actions.
