Apprenticeships
We recognise the value of apprenticeships and in 2017, we successfully became a member of the 5% Club – a scheme that recognises businesses with 5% or more of its workforce working towards an apprenticeship.
Our apprentices follow a structured programme. Each apprentice undertakes approximately 50 days of learning, key skills development, work-based and technical training, and work-based experience over the duration of their course. The key skills element develops apprentices’ key personal and employability skills, focusing on:
- Numeracy, literacy, and communication
- Customer focus
- IT
- Self-management and awareness
- Team working and leadership
- Thinking and problem solving
We motivate our apprentices to reach their full potential through recognising and developing not just technical, but also business and personal skills. We inspire them, nurturing their confidence and helping them to develop the essential personal skills that they will need to progress their careers.
Our aim is that at least 90% of those who join our apprenticeship programmes will stay with McCann’s into full employment. They will continue to have access to learning and development opportunities and the support of their line manager – enabling them to progress their career. They play a key role in mentoring future generations of apprentices through ‘buddying’ with new joiners, helping to create positive and quality work experiences. We currently have 9 individuals employed as apprentices on the following courses across the following works:

- Calderdale – Electrotechnical: Electrical Installation Level 3
- Calderdale – Installation Electrician/ Maintenance Electrician Level 3
- Sandwell – Installation Electrician/ Maintenance Electrician Level 3
- Hemlockstone Works – Vehicle Maintenance & Repair Light Vehicle
- A45 Chowns Mill – Highway Electrical Maintenance & Installation Operative Level 2
- Calderdale – Installation Electrician/ Maintenance Electrician Level 3
- Head Office – IT, Software, Web and Telecoms Professionals Level 4
- Head Office – Customer Service Practitioner
