Nottingham Express Transit (NET) – Phase 2
McCann’s involvement in Nottingham’s latest tram network project – NET Phase 2 – is now complete. We’re proud to have played a fundamental role in the expansion of the network, which provides fast new connections to the city from Chilwell via the QMC and to Beeston and Clifton via Wilford. The project has more than doubled the size of Nottingham’s tram network and is expected to boost the local economy by up to £300 million a year.
Following collaboration in preliminary and temporary works, the contract awarded to us in January 2014 involved the installation of over 800 columns and associated electrical equipment, along with 400 lanterns mounted on OLE masts. Our commitment and local knowledge was rewarded with additional work packages along the way, including a further 1,500 traffic signs, as well as CCTV masts, tram stop lighting and tram loop detectors. Further to this we’ve installed a complete drainage package at Wilford Lane including pumping station, rising main and attenuation tank.
NET Phase 2 has been an exciting, ever-changing and complex project, and alongside our installation work we’ve been influential in key engineering decisions – facilitating improvements to the private cabling system at Park & Ride sites, and redesigning cable runs for greater efficiency.
