We’ve completed £220,000 of significant drainage works on the A64 Brambling Fields Junction as principal contractor
We have successfully completed essential drainage maintenance work on the A64 at the Brambling Fields junction, North Yorkshire.
The scheme, in conjunction with Highways England’s term contractor A-one+, was delivered by us, acting as the Principal Contractor, in a 7-week period between February and March 2017.
The unstable drainage ditch was affecting the fields on one side and the main A64 trunk route on the other. The scheme was undertaken to prevent further erosion and subsequent disruption to the adjacent land. The Works included the re-profiling and a re-lining of a 400m length of ditch with mattress and gabions. The mattress and gabions are used widely within the industry, delivered as a flat pack cages, engineered from double twisted hexagonal woven steel wire mesh, the cages are assembled and filled with stone to form shaped blocks. For this project, 1,125 tonnes of rock had to be imported from a local supplier, selected to minimise carbon emissions and promote the local economy.
Steve Adcock, Contracts & Technical Director at McCann, is pleased with the successful completion of the project and the way in which it was coordinated and delivered on time. “This project demonstrates our ability to successfully manage and deliver all aspects of the project to a high standard and operate as the Principal Contractor. It is a fantastic achievement for all involved. We worked in close partnership with our client at all times, including agreeing on-site modifications, to achieve the objectives ”.
The scheme also received an excellent safety audit by Highways England’s term contractor A-one+ – “McCann has all the relevant procedures in place for a safe working environment” said Dean Saunders, SHE Manager at A-one+. “Supervisors at McCann have stepped up to the plate and ensured that they are managing staff and procedures in the correct manner – and this is reflected in a well-presented site and a brilliant health and safety record” added Dean.
