We continue our investment in the next generation of civil and electrical engineering talent
We are delighted to continue our investment in the next generation of industry experts after recruiting electrical apprentice Silas Reasbeck as part of our growing UK-wide team.
Silas recently joined McCann as a Trainee Electrical Installation Engineer, operating in the Calderdale region of West Yorkshire, and is working towards his Electrotechnical Level 3 Installation Standard at Barnsley College, Yorkshire. The 48-month course will provide Silas with both industry knowledge and practical skills as well as workplace assessments through certified electrical assessors.
News of Silas’ appointment comes during National Apprenticeship Week, a government-led initiative which celebrates and raises the profile of the range of apprenticeships available to school leavers and young people across the UK.
As part of Silas’ qualification, we are responsible for delivering on-the-job training – including meeting industry-specific health and safety standards – as well as facilitating access for Barnsley College’s assessment services.
The news reiterates our commitments as part of The 5% Club – an industry led initiative focussed on driving momentum into the recruitment of apprentices, graduates and sponsored students. We joined The 5% Club in 2017 and now employ 21 individuals as apprentices or undergoing formal training arrangements (NVQ’s) across the UK, with plans to continue investment in this area over the coming years.
Speaking about the opportunity to join McCann as an apprentice, Silas said, “I knew I wanted to go down the apprenticeship route, so when I was offered the chance to complete my Electrotechnical Level 3 Installation course with an industry leading provider of civil and electrical engineering, I was delighted!”
He continued, “Apprenticeships are a fantastic opportunity because they offer on-the-job training and the chance to gain a recognised industry qualification. Wider knowledge and understanding of the benefits of these qualifications is still limited, so it’s great to see initiatives such National Apprenticeship Week and The 5% Club promoting the positives of apprenticeships to a wider audience.”
Our Lean Manager, Ben Feltham, is excited to see Silas develop within his role and recognises the value of apprenticeships as part of the company’s long-term success.
“Investing in apprentices demonstrates the importance we place on the next generation of civil and electrical engineering experts,” says Ben
“These fresh, young brains bring new ideas to the workplace – one of the main factors that keeps us at the forefront of our industry and it is incredibly rewarding to see them develop their skills and watch them flourish. I look forward to watching Silas progress over the coming months and anticipate that he will do extremely well as part of the McCann team.”
