McCann hosting Broxtowe MP Darren Henry for HS2 visit

We are delighted to be hosting Conservative MP for Broxtowe, Darren Henry, on Friday 19th May – as he joins us at our Nottingham head office to hear about the contributions we have made to the HS2 project and why it means so much to us to be involved.

Considered as the largest infrastructure project in Europe, HS2 will deliver a new high-speed rail line connecting London to major cities in the North of the UK including Birmingham, Manchester and parts of Scotland – with all trains powered by zero carbon energy.

The scheme has created over 30,000 jobs, alongside valuable opportunities for many SME contractors to join the supply chain with an estimated 40,000+ opportunities created in Phase One alone.

We have had extensive involvement in the HS2 project across the strategic network to complete lighting, traffic signs and NRTS diversions on routes such as the M42 Junction 6, A45 Coventry Road and the M46. We are currently working on a £1m work package installing street lighting and traffic signs at a new junction which will facilitate one of the HS2 train stations.

As well as the installation works, we have also completed a number of core design projects for the HS2 project for clients including Skanska and Balfour Beatty, including temporary, access road and car park lighting.

Darren Henry is the Conservative MP for Broxtowe, describing himself as coming from a traditional British working-class family while also being strongly committed to the Broxtowe community. While he has acknowledged the impact of the project on the constituency, Darren has remained as a strong supporter of HS2 and will be visiting the project to find out more about our involvement.

Darren will be joined by our Managing Director, John McCann and well our Pre-Construction Manager, Jenna Holmes, New Business Manager, James McDaid and our Commercial Director, Adam Gulliver.

For John McCann, Darren’s visit presents a unique opportunity for a representative of the Broxtowe community to learn more about the scheme and see first-hand how it will boost economic growth significantly across both the Midlands, and North of the UK.

“We are privileged to welcome Darren and talk to him about what is deemed to be one of the most important economic regeneration projects of our time,”

“The development of HS2 provides an opportunity for better connectivity between our capital city and the North of the country, opening up a plethora of employment and leisure opportunities for people across the UK,”

John continues, “It is great to have Darren’s support, and it is a real honour for McCann to be involved in this historic project and to be a part of such a significant development of our country’s transportation infrastructure. I’m thoroughly looking forward to seeing how HS2 develops, while witnessing the positive impact it will have on the local community here in Broxtowe, as well as other communities across the country.”
