Three McCann operatives announced as finalists for Highways Heroes Awards
We are celebrating the brave actions of three of our Operatives after they were recently shortlisted for the Highways Heroes Awards for preventing a potentially serious incident in a public space.
The Highways Heroes Awards recognise and celebrate the hard work and successes of individuals in the highways industry, shining a light on their heroic actions and achievements in the face of adversity.
This year the awards will take place in the elegant Grosvenor House Hotel on Park Lane, London, on 7th December – with the black-tie celebration and awards ceremony sure to add a touch of glamour to the already prestigious occasion.
Nominations were open to individuals across the country who have shown courage and a commitment to going above and beyond the call of duty either within the communities they work within or through the support they deliver for their teams.
Winners chosen on the night will be judged by a group of industry peers led by Rich Marshall of National Highways.
Among the finalists are Operatives Russ Mann, Alex Porter and Richard Woodward who were shortlisted for their heroic actions while working on the A180 Stallingborough as part of National Highways’ Area 12 Network within Lincolnshire.
Previously recognised with our own Employee of the Month Award, Russ, Alex and Richard have been applauded for mitigating a potentially serious incident from occurring when a member of the public was acting out of character on a bridge over a busy road.
Their speed of thought and ability to make critical decisions under pressure allowed the emergency services to attend the scene and avert a potentially devastating situation – ensuring that the person in question could be given the support that they needed while safeguarding the wider general public and road users.
Managing Director, John McCann, is delighted to hear that the courageous actions of Russ, Alex and Richard have been recognised within the industry.
“I’m incredibly proud of the heroic response from Russ, Alex and Richard during what was undoubtedly a challenging moment in their working day,”
John continues, “The three men showed unwavering commitment to public safety and acted selflessly to navigate their way through this difficult situation. Their awareness of the dangers around them meant that they prevented a potentially devastating scene from playing out,”
He continues, “Russ, Alex and Richard embody the values we uphold at McCann, making them great ambassadors for the business and incredible role models for their peers. It’s an honour to see them named as finalists alongside other inspiring individuals at the Highways Heroes Awards and we look forward to celebrating many notable achievements from across the industry in December.”
