McCann ‘goes for gold’ after driving away with FORS’ top certification
We’re delighted to be celebrating special recognition by the Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme (FORS), after McCann recently secured Gold Status following a successful audit process.
FORS is a voluntary accreditation scheme with the aim of raising the level of quality within fleet operations. It also sets out to demonstrate operators who achieve exemplary levels of best practice in safety, efficiency and environmental protection.
FORS incorporates three levels of certification – bronze, silver and gold – and has over 4,900 accredited members covering over 103,000 vehicles.
Becoming a member of FORS is a way for fleet operators to gain support with managing work-related road risks (WRRR) while demonstrating to customers and supply chains that they are committed to exceeding industry standards.
Organisations can register if they operate any vehicle in the UK that is involved in the movement of materials, products, valuables, equipment, tools, waste, food, vehicles or luggage.
We successfully secured FORS Silver status in 2017 and have now met all the criteria for Gold status following a thorough audit process. McCann was assessed based on its vehicle legislation and approach to areas such as licensing, vehicle warning equipment, blind-spot minimisation, driver training, transport related fines and charges, and vehicle performance measurements – including CO2 emissions and fuel usage.
Being recognised as a FORS Gold status fleet operator brings numerous benefits for businesses, especially because many customers only choose to work with an operator that is FORS accredited due to its strong ties to health and safety, efficiency and commitments to the environment.
Our Fleet and Plant Manager Paul King is delighted with the news and sees this as a crucial part of the businesses long-term strategy.
‘’We’ve invested heavily in both our plant and fleet in recent years which has resulted in all of our plant being Stage 5 and the entire commercial fleet having Euro 6 engines,”
“Over the next two years, we’ll be exploring further clean air and environmentally friendly options for our vehicles including HVO, electric and hydrogen alternatives. Our company car fleet is already plug in hybrid as a minimum and all of our company cars will be electric by 2025,’’
Paul continues, “We also plan to monitor and improve overall fleet efficiency through better driver training, achieve a ten percent reduction in unnecessary engine idling times and hit a five percent reduction in harmful emissions – all in 2022. Continual fleet and environmental improvements very much sit at the heart of our business strategy in the short and long-term to ensure that we remain a contractor of choice for our customers.”
Our Managing Director, John McCann, is grateful for the efforts of the team in securing FORS Gold Status and appreciates the hard work that goes into achieving such recognition.
“FORS Gold Status takes years of hard work to achieve and our team has made sure that as a business we are compliant and consistently hitting high standards across all areas,” explains John.
“I’d like to take this opportunity to thank Paul King, Clodagh Howcroft and the entire Fleet Team for all of their dedication in helping us secure this fantastic accreditation.”
