McCann drives away with FORS Silver Status!
We’re pleased to announce that the company has been successfully awarded Silver Status by the Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme (FORS) for its fleet management system and approach to managing work-related road risks.
The Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme is a voluntary European Accreditation Programme for fleet operators, incorporating three levels of certification – bronze, silver and gold. The scheme has over 4,000 registered members, accrediting over 167,000 vehicles.
Organisations are able to register if they operate any vehicle in the UK that is involved in the movement of materials, products, valuables, equipment, tools, waste, food, vehicles or luggage. A strict set of standards must be adhered to, with FORS ultimately working to improve “best practice across the European fleet industry in terms of safety, efficiency and environmental protection”.
After holding FORS Bronze status for less than a year, we have successfully met all the required criteria for progression from Bronze to Silver. This step-up means that we are regarded as a “high quality operator, committed to becoming safer, greener and more efficient”. The company was assessed based on legislation and its approaches to areas such as licensing, vehicle warning equipment, blind-spot minimisation, driver training, transport related fines and charges, and vehicle performance measurements (including CO2 emissions and fuel usage).
The benefit of being recognised as a FORS Silver status fleet operator is that many customers only work with an operator that is FORS accredited because of its strong ties to health and safety, efficiency and commitments to the environment. The hope is that Silver status will continue to ensure the protection of our drivers and vulnerable road users and lead to more business leads moving forward, with customers recognising the commitment we have to these three key areas of good working practice.
Achieving Silver is not the end of the journey for us, as we set our sights on Gold Status in the future.
Lean/Quality Manager Ben Feltham said of the new Silver Status; “McCann has been a strong Bronze category business for a while now and we’ve been working hard as a team to put the foundations in place in order to achieve Silver”.
He added “FORS is all about best practice when it comes to health and safety and working practices across a number of fleet management areas. We are very proud to now be accredited with Silver status and we will strive to not only maintain this, but build upon it and work towards achieving Gold status in the future”.
The new FORS Silver status adds to what has already been a very successful year for us, especially in the area of health and safety, after achieving a RoSPA Gold Award for Safety and a Costain Certification for ‘demonstrating exceptional performance’ earlier in 2016.
