McCann ‘commended’ in Project of the Year category at CECA Midlands Annual Awards Dinner

We are delighted to have been ‘commended’ in the Project of the Year category for projects with a budget of £0-£1m, at this year’s Civil Engineering Contractors Association’s (CECA) Annual Awards Dinner for the Midlands region.

This month saw the much anticipated CECA Midlands Annual Awards Dinner; a prestigious event recognising the ‘best of the best’ in civil engineering across the Midlands.

The awards dinner was hosted in the MacDonald Burlington Hotel in Birmingham on Thursday 15th September and provided a forum for civil engineering contractors to reconnect with colleagues in the industry and celebrate the industry’s achievements.

As well as sponsoring the Newcomer of the Year Award, we were delighted to have received special recognition by being ‘commended’ in the Project of the Year category for our contribution to the Shrewsbury Strategic Infrastructure Works. This particular category recognises smaller projects with a budget of £0-£1m that achieved completion, or equivalent, between November 2021 and June 2022.

News of our recognition at this year’s awards dinner was warmly received by our Managing Director John McCann – providing another shining example of how McCann continues to abide by industry best practice when delivering major infrastructure projects.

“We truly strive for excellence in everything we do – whether that’s on site or through our in-house people development programmes,” explains John.

“Being commended for our involvement as Principal Contractor in the Shrewsbury Strategic Infrastructure Works is a real moment for celebration and testament to our ability to deliver efficient and high-quality civils works both safely and within precise client requirements,”

“Throughout this particular project, our team needed to carefully mitigate a number of risks – including those relating to public access and safety. We also had to be mindful of ensuring that the site could continue to operate as normal at all times. The project required meticulous planning and through successful collaboration, we achieved all of the goals set out upon its commencement,”

News of our commendation at CECA Midlands comes hot on the heels of the business being commended in the Employer of the Year category at this year’s CIHT Awards. We’ve also been named as a finalist at this year’s Highways Awards within the Mental Health and Wellbeing category – with the awards due to be presented on Wednesday 19th October in London.

For John, it’s a proud moment to see McCann’s name up in lights so regularly and he is keen for this momentum to be maintained going forward.

“I’m really pleased to see that McCann has established such a positive reputation for being a trusted and reliable contractor. As a team, we’re always looking ahead to see how we can further build upon our impressive portfolio of projects while enhancing our reputation for designing UK-wide infrastructure solutions that solve problems and meet both client and public expectations.”
