McCann earns double nomination at the National Highways Industry Awards
We’ve enjoyed a great start to 2022 after receiving the news that we have been named as a finalist in two categories at the National Highways’ prestigious 2020/21 Industry Awards.
Organised by National Highways, the annual award ceremony celebrates industry partners across 15 categories, recognising the “best in project design and delivery, carbon reduction and environmental stewardship and customer focused teams” within its supply chain.
Categories are divided across four key areas – customers, safety, delivery and industry wide contributions, with categories including People, Skills and Cultural Excellence, Exceptional Contribution to Road User Safety and Customer Focused Team of the Year.
McCann has been named as a finalist within two categories. The first is Making a Difference for Customers, as part of a shared submission within the East Midlands Asset Delivery (EMAD) Team. The second is a standalone nomination within the Excellence in Safety Learning and Culture category in recognition of our Genny First Initiative which was first implemented in 2021 on the M27 Motorway Upgrade Scheme.
Within Making a Difference for Customers, the judging panel are looking for examples of how organisations have improved services from a customer’s point of view and “how this has built or strengthened a mutual relationship”. McCann has been recognised as part of the EMAD team on the A45/A6 Chowns Mill Roundabout Improvement Project alongside several partners including Principal Contractor Carnell’s, Tarmac, Chevron Traffic Management and Roocroft.
Excellence in Safety Learning and Culture recognises safety learning within a positive safety culture, with clear evidence of businesses “empowering people with confidence to share when things do and don’t go well” – allowing workforces to learn from people’s experiences. McCann has been nominated following its implementation of its innovative Genny and CAT training initiative on the M27 Motorway Upgrade Scheme in collaboration with Bam Morgan Sindall Infrastructure Joint Venture (bmJV). We successfully introduced a new way to significantly improve competence and confidence in the use of Cable Avoidance Tools (CAT) via a new training exercise which focuses primarily on the use of the Signal Generator (Genny). The initiative was subsequently awarded a National Highways Blue Star Award in 2021.
This year’s National Highways Industry Awards take place on Thursday 10 February 2022 at the ICC in Birmingham.
Our Strategic Highways Director, Clive Leadbetter, is delighted to see the business kick off the year as a double finalist at the National Highways Industry Awards and sees the news as testament to the businesses’ approach to people, safety and its customers.
