A14 team awarded subcontractor of the month award!
A McCann team carrying out motorway communication and street lighting works as part of the A14 Integrated Delivery Team between Huntingdon and Cambridge, has been awarded the August subcontractor of the month award by Highways England.
The project is split into 5 sections, with the award presented for works on section 2 after our team started working on the scheme in February 2017.
To date, works have included the installation of fibre optic cables to the main compound at Brampton as well as technology and street lighting removals to enable the main construction phases to proceed. Our team has also completed work on the main package of delivery within sections 1 and 2, before moving onto section 5 of the project in April this year.
Under our ISOQAR accreditation, the A14 site was nominated to be audited by an accreditor in early August to ensure that all health and safety procedures were being adhered to.
The criteria for the subcontractor of the month award includes assessment of site safety audits, tool box talks, attendance of health and safety meetings, attitudes of staff on site and observations raised.
After assessing all of the criteria, the judging panel score each subcontracting team – with the best performing team taking away the Subcontractor of the Month award.
Within our A14 team’s winning total for August, there was a special mention for Scott Borg – who raised the observation card of the month for reporting nails sticking out of a concrete pile cap. Scott quickly reported the issue to a supervisor before removing most of the nails and bending back the ones that could not be removed.
Speaking about our award-winning news, our Contracts Manager John McDonagh said, “The award for our A14 team is a testament to the strong internal health and safety culture at McCann,”
“The lads on site take all matters relating to health and safety very seriously. If anything poses a risk or is of concern, they’re great at taking responsibility for an immediate resolution by following the right procedures and reporting it to the supervisory team,”
“I’m very proud of their work and they’re a great advert for what McCann and the wider A14 Integrated Delivery Team is all about.”
