NY Highways Awards McCann Multi‑Year Electrical Installations and ICP Contract

We are proud to announce that McCann has been awarded the NY Highways Highway Electrical Installations, including ICP works contract for North Yorkshire Council.

This important contract award will see our teams delivering a comprehensive range of highway electrical and Independent Connection Provider (ICP) services across the region, including maintenance, inspections, installations and associated infrastructure works supporting North Yorkshire’s highway network.

Securing this contract is another major milestone for McCann and further reinforces our position as a trusted specialist within the highway electrical and ICP sector. This contract enables us to use our expertise to ensure the safe, efficient, and sustainable delivery of street lighting and highway electrical services across North Yorkshire.

North Yorkshire Council commented, “North Yorkshire Council is pleased to award McCann the contract for NY Highways – Highway Electrical Installations, including ICP works. McCann demonstrated a strong understanding of our network needs and a clear commitment to delivering safe, reliable and wellmanaged highway electrical services across the county.

We welcome McCann’s decision to strengthen their Yorkshire presence through their Knottingley depot, which will support responsive service delivery and provide a solid base for ongoing collaboration. Their focus on local employment, skills development and investment in the regional supply chain aligns with our priorities for longterm community benefit.

We look forward to working closely with McCann and NY Highways as we continue to maintain and improve North Yorkshire’s highway infrastructure.”

The contract will run from June 2026 for 2 years, with the option to extend for two additional 12-month periods, potentially ending May 2030 and covers the maintenance and improvement of more than 50,000 highway electrical assets, including street lighting, illuminated signs, bollards and traffic signals. The work includes routine maintenance, nonroutine repairs, structural testing, cable and ducting works, and the installation or disconnection of electrical units, all delivered in line with Chapter 8 safety standards. The contract also provides full ICP services—from identifying LV mains to jointing, reinstatement, testing and commissioning—and supports Section 38 and Section 278 development projects through new street lighting installations. All activity will be monitored against defined KPIs and aligned with the Council’s environmental and carbonreduction objectives.

As part of this award, we are continuing to establish and invest in our Yorkshire operations through our depot in Knottingley, creating a strong regional presence that will support both the Council and the wider market.

Whilst our immediate focus is on delivering a high-quality, safe and responsive service for NY Highways and North Yorkshire Council, this contract also represents the foundation for our long-term growth strategy within the region. We are committed to building a sustainable and steady-state business model in Yorkshire, while continuing to expand our service offering and support additional external clients across the area.

Our ambition is not only to deliver infrastructure works, but to create lasting value within the communities we serve through:

  • Local employment and skills development
  • Investment in the regional economy and supply chain
  • Innovation and continuous improvement in service delivery
  • Long-term partnerships with local authorities and clients
  • Sustainable growth across the Yorkshire region

James McDaid, Head of Local Authority Business at McCann, said, “This contract award is an important step in the continued growth of our local authority business across Yorkshire. Establishing our presence in Knottingley demonstrates our long-term commitment to the region, not only in supporting North Yorkshire Council and NY Highways with a first-class service, but also in building a sustainable regional business that creates local opportunities, drives innovation and supports future growth.

We see Yorkshire as a key strategic area for McCann and are committed to investing in local people, local supply chains and long-term partnerships whilst continuing to expand our services for both public and private sector clients throughout the region.”

We look forward to working closely with NY Highways and North Yorkshire Council over the coming years and to playing a long-term role in supporting and developing highway infrastructure throughout Yorkshire.
