McCann has been the incumbent for the Sandwell Street Lighting Improvements contract for the past 9 years, building an in-depth understanding of the region, its communities, and its evolving needs. This long-standing presence enables us to bring proven expertise, continuity, and innovation to every aspect of our service.

Our team have been creating meaningful, positive impact within the local area, enhancing communities, driving local opportunities and delivering lasting benefits beyond the core contract.

This includes employing local apprentices, such as Josh Beck, Apprentice Electrician, currently working alongside our delivery team, with 8 previous apprentices employed across our scheme in Sandwell who have now moved on to other works to gain further experience.

We have supported local charities, including Sandwell Children’s Trust, where we donated gifts of toys and teddies for children in the hope that we can help bring some joy to the children of Sandwell during the Christmas period, and Sandwell Clothing Bank, where during the first winter at St Mary’s Church, Bearwood, it became clear that the unheated hall was a risk to the clothing stock, being affected by cold and damp. McCann agreed to install the electrical infrastructure required to power the heaters for free, with two of our engineers giving up their free time on a Saturday to deliver the work.

John Shepard, Principal Designer and Project Manager, Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council, commented, “Sandwell Metropolitan Borough Council is pleased to appoint McCann to deliver the Street Lighting Improvements Programme. Throughout the procurement process, McCann stood out for their practical approach, technical capability, and clear commitment to delivering reliable, community-focused services. Their understanding of the operational demands of maintaining and improving a diverse street lighting network across Sandwell gives us confidence in a smooth and effective delivery.

The team has already demonstrated a positive and forward-thinking approach to mobilisation, with a strong emphasis on responsiveness, asset management, and maintaining service continuity. Their ability to integrate improvement works with ongoing maintenance activities will be key to supporting the borough’s infrastructure and public safety.

We are confident that this partnership will bring long-term value and look forward to working together to enhance and modernise Sandwell’s street lighting network for the benefit of residents and road users alike.”
