We’ve attended the national Go4SET initiative Celebration and Assessment Day in support of local Trent College participants
We recently attended the nationally-recognised Go4SET ‘Celebration and Assessment Day’ after supporting a group of students from Trent College in Long Eaton, in their initiative to design an eco hotel of the future.
Through the support of McCann’s Lean/Quality Manager Ben Feltham, 6 students taking part in the initiative visited our Peter James Homes Pentrich Fields site at Giltbrook on 22 May 2017, in order to learn more about the various processes required in the construction industry.
Following extensive classroom-based work, alongside the site visit, the students were then invited to present their ideas through a presentation and report at the Go4SET ‘Celebration and Assessment Day’ at the Ricoh Arena, Coventry, on the 22 June. These were presented alongside the carefully constructed model of their eco hotel – which was based on everything they had learned throughout the project.
The report detailed the team behind the project, including Ben as their mentor from McCann, as well as all the planning and implementation processes that would be required in order to design and build the eco hotel.
Although the group didn’t take away any prizes on the day, the judging panel gave very positive feedback to the 6 students and praised their professionalism as well as the quality of their eco hotel model. The team was also entered into the regional Big Bang competition based on the strength of their entry.
McCann has since been awarded Bronze Level certificate for meeting all necessary requirements in the Industrial Cadet Framework – after the company’s participation in the project to mentor and guide the students with their project.
Ben Feltham is proud of the efforts of the students and is delighted to have been involved with the project – “We fully support encouraging the talent of the future in getting a foothold in the industry – especially with the current shortage of young people wanting to gain a career in construction or civil engineering. I would like to extend a big thank you and well done to the students from Trent College for their hard work and commitment throughout the project – they were a pleasure to work with”.
