Supporting 260,000+ miles of the UK road network

Across both local and national road networks, McCann delivers highway services, including but not limited to street lighting design and installation, roadside communications and technology, maintenance, and civil engineering, such as drainage works.

We work closely with organisations responsible for the roads we travel on, including National Highways and Local Authorities such as the London Borough of Hillingdon, Suffolk County Council, Liverpool City Council and North Lincolnshire Council.

Our passion is reflected in the diverse range of projects we undertake. From the £9 million civil engineering, lighting and technology contract on the M25 as part of the National Highways National Emergency Area Retrofit (NEAR) programme, to a 7 (plus 3) year street lighting maintenance contract for Suffolk County Council. Our work within the highways sector has one clear goal: to enhance the safety, capacity, and ensure the smooth running for all users.

Successful SDF delivery across key areas

McCann plays a key role in delivering and maintaining essential highway infrastructure across the UK. We have supported National Highways on multiple frameworks including, the Construction Management Framework and the Construction Works Framework.

For the past 5 years, we have been working on the Scheme Delivery Framework (SDF), across lighting and technology lots covering the North (Areas 10, 12 & 13), Midlands (Areas 7 & 9) and Southern (Area 3) regions, delivering multidisciplinary schemes. Strong leadership, capable specialist delivery teams and a robust, accredited governance structure, complemented by a collaborative, proactive approach with the client and supply chain, allowed us to deliver successfully against the demand and SDF framework requirements.

Delivering a safer and more resilient A1(M) highways infrastructure through five strategic highway schemes

McCann has successfully delivered five schemes for Balfour Beatty as part of the safety upgrade programme along the 18-mile strategic motorway corridor connecting the M1, M62, and A1(M) south and east of Leeds. Collectively valued at £5 million, the projects encompassed site clearance, civil engineering works, street lighting, and technology installations.

When Skanska, on behalf of National Highways, took on the ambitious task of upgrading the M42 at Junction 6 in Solihull, McCann was brought in as a key delivery partner for street lighting, traffic signals, communications, kerbing, drainage, and footpath infrastructure.

As a key strategic partner within the SMP Alliance, McCann was entrusted with the delivery of Civil Engineering, Lighting, Signage & Technology packages across 24 Emergency Area locations on the M25 between junctions 23 and 27.

McCanns were awarded the Street Lighting Maintenance contract in October 2023, by Suffolk County Council, whose extensive street lighting network encompasses 62,000 road lighting assets.

Working for Taylor Wimpey as Principal Contractor, McCann was chosen to deliver crucial works on the A5 Longshoot infrastructure in Nuneaton, Warwickshire. The project scope involved complete Section 278 works widening and installing a signalised 4-way Junction on the A5.
