Highways Lighting Night Scout

About the role
J McCann currently has an opportunity for a Highways Lighting Night Scout to join our maintenance team based in Hillingdon.

Your role will be to identify and report any visual faults with the street lighting furniture. This will include lights not working correctly or items that have been damaged and require repair.  We will provide all guidance and training required as well as all the equipment necessary to fulfil the role successfully.

What you'll be doing

As a Highways Lighting Night Scout, you will:

- Work during the hours of darkness
- Develop route efficiency in line with the inspection programme
- Complete a daily report of defects for the Maintenance Manager
- Complete daily task paperwork 

Who we're looking for

The following are a requirement for the position:

Essential

- Hold a full, clean UK Driving Licence
- Be able to work a 4-5 hour nightly shift between Sunday night and Friday morning
- Have the ability to work unsupervised
- Reliable, punctual and strong time management skills 
- Strong written and numerical skills 

Desirable

- Previous inspection experience
- Previous Street Lighting experience

Street Lighting HIAB Operative

J McCann currently has an opportunity for a Street Lighting HIAB Operative to join our maintenance team based in Hillingdon.

Your role will be to assist with the installation of Road Lighting, Traffic Signs, and other associated equipment. This will include excavation, cable laying, installation and the removal of columns, signposts and feeder pillars.

What you'll be doing

As a Highways a Street Lighting HIAB Operative, you will:

- Be a part of a team carrying out new installation works
- Observe and promote all aspects of Health & Safety
- Carry out daily vehicle maintenance checks
- Complete all necessary paperwork to provide records of work carried out/equipment used

Who we're looking for

The following are a requirement for the position:

Essential

- A full clean UK HGV Driving Licence - Class C
- CPCS Category A36a and c or ALLMI Class C1 and Slinger Signaller Certification
- Previous Lorry Mounted Crane (Hiab) experience
- Ability to work as a part of a team
- Ability to understand construction drawings
- Reliable, punctual and strong time management skills 
- Strong written and numerical skills

Desirable

- CPCS Category A36b or ALLMI Class C4
- G39/1 accreditation
- NRSWA qualification
- Previous experience of street lighting works
- Knowledge of traffic management arrangements

Street Lighting Hiab Operator

In this role you will support the growth of our Street Lighting Business, carrying out various tasks within the titled role ensuring that all H&S objectives and responsibilities are adhered to. You will also assist with the maintenance and erection of street lighting columns, signs and related equipment.

As a Hiab (Installation Crane) Operative, you will:

- Erect, maintain and remove street lighting, signs and related equipment, paying careful attention to buried services and overhead cables

- Excavate and reinstate coated and other surface materials

- Drive vehicles and operate ancillary plant (hoists or lorry loaders) and, where appropriate, carry out vehicle and plant checks requiring routine maintenance and cleaning

- Transport goods, equipment and personnel to and from site

- Assist in the loading and unloading of the vehicles using, where necessary, mechanical aids


To be successful in this role, you will:

- Have previous street lighting experience

- Hold a CSCS or ECS card

- Hold a full UK driving license to drive over 3.5t

- Be a NRSWA operative

- Hold a GCSE or equivalent in both Maths & English

- Have excellent communication skills


Desirable:

- Manual Handling, emergency first aid and G39

- Groundwork Gangers (experience in deep drainage i.e. roads & sewers / housing plot foundations etc)
- Groundwork Gangers (experience in utilities installation in urban areas i.e. virgin media/BT etc preferential)
- Machine Operatives (CPCS competency cards for either above or below 10tn tracked machines….or both)
- HGV Operatives (preferable experience/cert’s for Grab/Hiab but not essential)
- Labourers (preferably with CSCS cards but again, not essential)
